Pitzer Senior Environmental Analysis Thesis

For my senior Environmental Analysis thesis, I proposed an adaptive reuse redesign of a warehouse in Rancho Cucamonga, CA, transforming it into a mixed-use artist hub. The project reimagines industrial infrastructure as community-centered space, exploring how design can intervene in the Inland Empire’s logistics-dominated landscape to support sustainability, equity, and local creative economies.

  • Researched Rancho Cucamonga’s zoning codes, strategic plans, and long-term urban vision, with a focus on industrial and mixed-use development.

  • Conducted spatial analysis using GIS tools, Google Earth, and fieldwork to assess the site’s relationship to surrounding neighborhoods, transit corridors, and civic nodes.

  • Used SketchUp to model a flexible, modular interior plan that could accommodate studios, living spaces, and public events within the existing industrial structure.

  • Analyzed the socio-environmental impacts of the Inland Empire’s logistics boom, arguing for adaptive reuse as a human-centered response to warehouse sprawl.

  • Designed the proposal to align with Rancho Cucamonga’s Creative Placemaking and Public Art Strategic Plan, embedding art and culture into the architectural reuse.
